Rhinoplasty (Nasal Surgery)

Nothing has a greater impact on how a person looks than the shape and size of the nose. Even a little change of the nose can greatly improve your facial appearance. Rhinoplasty can be done for functional, for cosmetic reasons or for both.

You need to know how would you look and how the procedure is performed.

Successful operation is a result of good rapport between patient and surgeon.

The consultation before surgery helps to answer specific questions about your specific needs. The consultation is the time when a surgeon learns your expectations, examines you and your nose and finally elaborates on a surgical plan. You will discuss the risks involved in surgery, anesthesia, pain control and wound management after the procedure. Photographs of your face are always taken for surgical planning and postoperative care. Computer imaging software assists to discuss with you a proposed operation.

An incision is made in the area of skin separating the nostrils. Certain amounts of bone and cartilage are removed or added to provide a newly shaped structure. In some cases, a patient’s own cartilage taken from nonvisible and nonfunctional parts of the ear or the lower rib or artificial implants are used to improve the nasal contour.  Absorbable stitches don’t need to be removed. Cosmetic stitches, nasal dressings are removed in a week.

After surgery pain medication may be required for a day or two. You may experience swelling and bruises around the eyes. They settled down within the first week. Major swelling of your nose disappears in two weeks. The nasal shape can be appreciated in three-six months.

Dr. Filatov has done hundreds of rhinoplasties.
